MSC Cruises Opens Bookings for Third Consecutive Alaska Season
MSC Cruises has opened bookings for its Summer 2028 Alaska season, with MSC Poesia set to return to Seattle for a third consecutive year of sailings to what the line calls the "Last Frontier."
The details
MSC Poesia will operate weekly seven-night Alaska itineraries from Seattle, running from 24 April to 18 September 2028. The route calls at Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau and Victoria, British Columbia, along with scenic cruising through Tracy Arm, where passengers can view the Sawyer Glaciers.
The announcement, made on 30 July 2026, arrives at the midway point of MSC Cruises' first-ever Alaska season, which the line has pointed to as a sign of strong early demand for the destination. Guests wanting to sail sooner can already book the Summer 2027 season, which runs from 26 April to 27 September 2027.
Between its Alaska deployments each year, MSC Poesia operates MSC Grand Voyage sailings through the Panama Canal between Miami and Seattle, giving the ship a year-round presence across two very different cruise markets.
A refurbished ship for the region
MSC Poesia underwent a significant refurbishment ahead of its debut Alaska season this summer. The 92,600-gross-ton ship gained a new MSC Yacht Club suite complex, two new specialty restaurants (Butcher's Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar), the All-Stars Sports Bar, an enhanced MSC Aurea Spa, and an upgraded MSC Gym powered by Technogym.
Frank Van den Steen, Country Manager Benelux at MSC Cruises, said Alaska continues to capture the imagination of guests in that market more than ever, pointing to the region's landscapes and wildlife as a draw, and highlighting the newly added MSC Yacht Club as a particularly well-received addition for returning guests.
Why it matters
Alaska has become an increasingly competitive market among major cruise lines, and MSC's decision to commit a third consecutive season to the region — while the current inaugural season is still under way — signals confidence that demand will hold rather than being a one-off novelty booking surge. Locking in a ship and itinerary two years ahead also gives the line an early marketing runway and lets it capture forward bookings from travellers planning further in advance.
