Mumbai

Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Ballard Pier is India's major international cruise gateway, with BPX serving international ships and BPS designated for domestic cruise operations.

Dock

Mumbai is one of India's principal cruise gateways, with ships using the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Ballard Pier. Cruise operations from the completed terminal commenced in April 2025.

The modern terminal covers more than 415,000 square feet and includes 72 check-in and immigration counters. Government material released at its opening stated that the wider MICT cruise facility was designed to handle up to five ships simultaneously, vessels up to 300m long and 11m draft, and approximately one million passengers annually.

Deck7 records Ballard Pier Extension (BPX) as the principal international cruise berth and Ballard Pier Station (BPS) as a second established cruise-capable position used for domestic cruise operations. Mumbai Port Authority planning documents say OCT or 18 Indira Dock can receive a third vessel when required, but these remain commercial overflow positions and are not counted as permanent cruise berths.

The terminal's South Mumbai location gives convenient access to Fort, Colaba, the Gateway of India and other central attractions.

Mumbai Port is an extensive commercial harbour containing numerous cargo, oil, Ro-Ro, Coast Guard, dock and ferry facilities. Those berths remain outside Deck7's cruise count unless authoritative evidence establishes a genuine cruise role.

Terminal information

Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Ballard Pier is India's largest purpose-built international cruise terminal. Cruise operations from the completed terminal commenced on 21 April 2025. The terminal has a built-up area exceeding 415,000 sq ft and 72 check-in and immigration counters, and is designed for major turnaround operations.

Docking and tender information

The principal international cruise berth is Ballard Pier Extension (BPX), alongside the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal. Mumbai Port Authority planning material also identifies Ballard Pier Station (BPS) for domestic cruise vessels and states that OCT or 18 Indira Dock may be used for a third cruise vessel when operationally necessary. Deck7 records BPX and BPS as the two established Ballard Pier cruise positions; occasional overflow commercial berths are not promoted to permanent cruise berths. Government material released for MICT's April 2025 opening states the wider cruise facility is designed to handle up to five ships simultaneously, vessels up to 300m long and 11m draft, but this is a terminal/facility-level design statement rather than evidence for five individually dedicated cruise berths.

Getting around

Taxis, coaches and organised transfers serve the terminal. Ballard Pier's South Mumbai location provides road access to Colaba, Fort, the Gateway of India and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Accessibility

MICT is a modern purpose-built passenger terminal with extensive check-in and immigration facilities. Ship-specific mobility, gangway and transfer assistance should be arranged through the cruise line.
