Phuket

Phuket cruise calls use the Deep Sea Port at Ao Makham for alongside operations and offshore anchorages at Patong for tender calls.

Dock

Phuket operates as both an alongside and tender cruise destination. Ships using Phuket Deep Sea Port berth at Ao Makham on the southeast coast, while other vessels anchor offshore and tender passengers into Patong on the island's west coast.

The existing Ao Makham deep-sea facility is a mixed-use port rather than a cruise-only terminal. Public technical information commonly describes an approximately 360m quay with around 10m water depth. Deck7 records those as physical infrastructure figures without inventing a maximum cruise-vessel LOA or draught.

Patong is recorded separately as an anchorage/tender operation. Its tender landing points, pontoons and local-boat facilities are deliberately not counted as individual cruise berths.

The two operating locations give passengers very different arrivals. Ao Makham requires road transfers to many resort areas, while Patong tender calls place passengers directly in one of Phuket's principal west-coast tourism districts.

Thailand has pursued redevelopment plans for Phuket's deep-sea cruise infrastructure. Deck7 records only established operational infrastructure and does not add proposed or unfinished cruise berths to the database.

Terminal information

Phuket cruise calls use two distinct operating patterns. Ships able to use Phuket Deep Sea Port berth alongside at Ao Makham on the island's southeast coast. Other calls, particularly larger ships or calls positioned for Phuket's west-coast resort areas, anchor offshore and tender passengers ashore in the Patong area. Deck7 records both operating modes rather than treating Phuket as exclusively dock or exclusively tender.

Docking and tender information

Phuket Deep Sea Port at Ao Makham provides the island's principal alongside cruise capability. The existing facility is a mixed-use deep-sea port rather than a cruise-only terminal. Public technical references commonly describe an approximately 360m quay with around 10m water depth, but Deck7 does not infer a universal maximum cruise-ship LOA or draught from those physical figures. Patong is represented separately as an anchorage/tender operation and its landing facilities are not counted as additional cruise berths.

Getting around

Taxis, private transfers, coaches and organised excursions are widely used. Ao Makham calls require road transfers for Phuket Town, beaches and major attractions. Patong tender calls land passengers much closer to the west-coast resort area.

Accessibility

Accessibility varies considerably between alongside calls at Ao Makham and tender calls at Patong. Tender embarkation and disembarkation can be unsuitable for some passengers with reduced mobility; arrangements should be confirmed with the cruise line.
