Ambience is the flagship of Ambassador Cruise Line and operates primarily on no-fly cruises from London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury. The 70,285gt vessel accommodates approximately 1,400 guests and is marketed principally for adults, with selected multi-generational sailings.
The ship was built by Fincantieri at Monfalcone, Italy, and entered service for Princess Cruises in 1991 as Regal Princess. She was named in New York on 8 August 1991 by former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
After leaving Princess Cruises in 2007, the ship transferred to P&O Cruises Australia and became Pacific Dawn. She remained in Australian service until 2020. A planned transfer to Cruise & Maritime Voyages under the name Amy Johnson did not proceed, and that name was never placed into operational service.
The vessel was subsequently sold for a proposed floating-residence project and renamed Satoshi. When that project did not proceed, she was acquired for the launch of Ambassador Cruise Line, underwent a major refit and entered service as Ambience in April 2022.
Ambassador's current ship profile gives a gross tonnage of 70,285, 789 cabins, capacity for 1,400 guests, ten guest decks and a cruising speed of 15 knots. A later corporate fleet summary lists approximately 700 crew members.
Technical records give an overall length of approximately 245.1 metres, a moulded beam of 32.25 metres and a summer draught of approximately 8.1 metres. The vessel has diesel-electric propulsion. Its permanent IMO number is 8521232.
Public spaces include the Palladium theatre, Observatory, Raffles Bar, Botanical Lounge, SW19, The Purple Turtle Pub, Buckingham Restaurant and Borough Market. Other facilities include speciality restaurants, a casino, library, craft studio, wellness centre, pools, hot tubs and outdoor film screen.
Before beginning Ambassador service, Ambience received emissions-reduction equipment intended to achieve IMO Tier III nitrogen-oxide standards. Ambassador says systems fitted to convert harmful exhaust gases into inert nitrogen and water vapour reduced relevant emissions substantially. Updated ballast-water and sewage-treatment systems were also installed.
Ambassador lists the latest major refits as taking place in 2017 and 2022. The company planned its original inaugural voyage for 6 April 2022, but supply-chain delays during the refit moved the first Ambience sailing from Tilbury to 20 April 2022.
Ambience sails under the flag of the Bahamas and is registered in Nassau. AIS services list MMSI 311001109 and call sign C6FH4. These operational identifiers should be checked periodically in case the vessel changes flag or registration.
The exact date of the ship's original maiden voyage in 1991 has not been confirmed from a sufficiently authoritative source. It is therefore left blank in the Deck7 Ship Index rather than being confused with her first sailing as Ambience in 2022.
