MSC Opera is a Lirica-class ocean cruise ship operated by MSC Cruises. Built at Saint-Nazaire, France, she entered service in 2004.
MSC's current ship page publishes 65,691 GT, a length of approximately 274 metres, beam of 28 metres, 1,070 cabins, capacity for 2,658 guests, 728 crew members and a maximum speed of 20 knots. A second MSC page gives the more precise dimensions of 274.9 metres by 28.8 metres and maximum speed of 20.3 knots; Deck7 preserves those more precise operator figures where appropriate.
2015 Renaissance transformation
MSC Opera underwent a major structural transformation at Fincantieri's Palermo shipyard between 2 May and 4 July 2015 as part of MSC Cruises' Renaissance Programme. The programme lengthened the Lirica-class ships from approximately 251 metres to around 275 metres by inserting a new prefabricated midship section, while adding passenger cabins, crew accommodation, entertainment areas and technical enhancements.
Current accommodation
MSC's current headline ship page lists 1,070 cabins and 2,658 guests. Its downloadable deck plan lists 1,075 cabins and 2,658 guests. Deck7 therefore uses the current headline 1,070-cabin figure while recording the five-cabin discrepancy for future verification.
Identification
MSC Opera carries IMO number 9246273. Secondary registry references identify MMSI 357627000, call sign H3FV and Panama registry.
Environmental technology
MSC Opera is conventionally fuelled and is not LNG-powered. Ship-specific shore-power and exhaust-gas-cleaning-system status remain unconfirmed in this record rather than being inferred from other MSC ships.
