Oosterdam is a Vista-class ocean cruise ship operated by Holland America Line. Built by Fincantieri at Marghera in Italy, she entered service in 2003 as the second of four closely related Vista-class vessels.
The ship was launched on 18 November 2002 and formally named in Rotterdam on 29 July 2003 by Princess Margriet of the Netherlands. Her name reflects the eastern point of the compass: oost means east in Dutch, while the traditional dam ending links the vessel with Holland America's long-established naming convention.
Oosterdam measures approximately 285.23 metres in length and 32.25 metres across the beam. Following changes during her operating career, registry and fleet sources record a gross tonnage of approximately 82,305gt. Holland America markets the ship for about 1,964 guests, supported by approximately 812 crew members, with 11 passenger decks and 982 staterooms.
Accommodation ranges from inside and ocean-view rooms to verandah staterooms and Signature, Neptune and Pinnacle suites. Principal onboard spaces include the two-level Dining Room, Lido Market, Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Dive-In, World Stage, Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard, Crow's Nest, Casino, Greenhouse Spa & Salon, fitness facilities and covered and open-air pool areas.
Oosterdam completed a major two-week dry dock in the Bahamas in April 2025. Work included refreshed staterooms and public rooms, an expanded casino, a new Effy Lounge, an upgraded Rolling Stone Lounge, renewed Lido Market and Canaletto spaces, rebuilt spa facilities, updated pools and hot tubs, new fitness equipment and redesigned activity areas within the Crow's Nest.
The vessel is also scheduled to become the first ship completed under the Holland America Evolution programme. A further bow-to-stern transformation is planned to debut in late 2027, adding 76 staterooms, Solo Verandahs, Bridgeview Suites, a reimagined Pinnacle Suite, Vista Suites, Grand Dutch Café and other dining, entertainment and accommodation changes. Those future additions are not included in the present capacity and cabin figures.
Oosterdam operates changing destination-led itineraries, including Mediterranean, South American and Antarctic programmes. Guests should check the latest deployment and deck plans with Holland America, particularly for sailings after the planned 2027 transformation.
