Titanic II is a proposed passenger ocean liner promoted by Australian businessman Clive Palmer through his company Blue Star Line. The project is intended to recreate the appearance and passenger experience of RMS Titanic while using modern engineering, navigation and safety systems.
Palmer first announced the project in 2012 and revived it in 2018 and again in March 2024. At the latest relaunch, Blue Star Line proposed a maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in June 2027.
Titanic II has not been built and is not under confirmed construction. As of August 2026, Blue Star Line had not publicly named a shipyard, announced a signed construction contract or recorded physical milestones such as steel cutting or keel laying. The June 2027 voyage is therefore no longer achievable on the published timetable.
Proposed size and capacity
Blue Star Line's March 2024 specifications describe a ship approximately 269 metres long and 32.2 metres wide, with an estimated gross tonnage of 56,000gt.
The proposed accommodation comprises 835 cabins for up to 2,435 passengers. Blue Star Line divides those cabins into 383 first-class rooms, 201 second-class rooms and 251 third-class rooms, reflecting the passenger classes carried by the original Titanic.
The company describes Titanic II as having nine decks. No final crew capacity has been confirmed in Blue Star Line's current published specifications.
Design and interiors
The concept aims to reproduce prominent spaces from the 1912 liner, including the Grand Staircase, first-class dining room, Café Parisien, bridge, cabins, swimming pool, gymnasium and Turkish baths.
It would not be an exact technical replica. The proposed ship is wider than RMS Titanic and would include an additional safety deck, modern lifeboats, reinforced construction, improved visibility from the bridge and contemporary navigation and communications equipment.
Blue Star Line says the ship would use diesel-electric triple propulsion rather than the original vessel's coal-fired steam machinery. Its four funnels would reproduce Titanic's external appearance, although they would not perform the same function as the original funnels.
Design partners
Finnish naval architecture and marine engineering company Deltamarin has worked on the proposed design. Blue Star Line's 2024 announcement also named V.Ships Leisure for project support, building supervision and ship-management services, and Tillberg Design for marine architecture and interiors.
Deltamarin confirmed in 2019 that its work included updating the outline design for modern rules, including SOLAS safety requirements and the Energy Efficiency Design Index. Its involvement represents design and consultancy work; it does not establish that a shipbuilding contract has been placed.
Proposed route
Blue Star Line intends Titanic II to recreate the original transatlantic itinerary from Southampton to New York, with Cherbourg also identified as a port of call. The company has referred to later voyages around the world, but no operational schedule or bookable sailings have been released.
Blue Star Line's official frequently asked questions page confirms that tickets are not yet available and says the maiden-voyage date and prices will be published when released.
Current status
Titanic II has not been formally cancelled. Blue Star Line continues to maintain the project's official website and present the vessel as an active ambition.
For accuracy, however, Titanic II should be classified as a proposed ship, not as an ordered vessel, a ship under construction or a forthcoming 2027 arrival. It has no assigned IMO number, confirmed flag, call sign, selected builder, build year or entry-into-service date.
The project's status would materially change only after independently verifiable milestones such as the naming of a shipyard, signature of a construction contract, class approval, steel cutting and publication of a realistic delivery programme.
