Zuiderdam is a Vista-class ocean cruise ship operated by Holland America Line. Built by Fincantieri at Marghera in Italy, she entered service in December 2002 as the first of the line's four Vista-class vessels.
The ship was named at Port Everglades by American journalist and television presenter Joan Lunden. Her name reflects the southern point of the compass: zuid means south in Dutch, while the traditional dam ending continues Holland America's long-established ship-naming convention.
Zuiderdam measures approximately 285.23 metres in length and 32.25 metres across the beam. Later registry and fleet sources record a gross tonnage of approximately 82,305gt. Holland America markets the ship for about 1,964 guests, supported by approximately 817 crew members, with 11 passenger decks and approximately 985 staterooms following additions made in 2025.
Accommodation ranges from inside and ocean-view rooms to verandah staterooms and Signature, Neptune and Pinnacle suites. Principal onboard spaces include the Dining Room, Lido Market, Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Dive-In, World Stage, Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard, Crow's Nest, Casino, Greenhouse Spa & Salon, fitness facilities and covered and open-air pool areas.
Zuiderdam returned to service on 6 December 2025 following a two-week dry dock in the Bahamas. The work introduced a redesigned Crow's Nest with an entertainment bandstand and upgraded lighting and audio, added 11 ocean-view staterooms across decks 1 and 7, and refreshed carpets, bathrooms, dining venues, public rooms, the Photo Gallery and pool and spa furniture.
The vessel is scheduled to become the second ship completed under the Holland America Evolution programme, with the transformation expected to debut in March 2028. Plans include a reimagined Pinnacle Suite, two Bridgeview Suites, 14 Vista Suites, 32 Solo Verandah staterooms, refreshed accommodation and a Grand Dutch Café. Those future changes are not included in the present capacity and cabin figures.
Zuiderdam operates a changing programme of longer destination-led cruises, including Caribbean, Panama Canal, European and Grand Voyage itineraries. Guests should check the latest deployment and deck plans with Holland America, particularly for sailings after the planned 2028 transformation.
